PUBLIC PROFILE

Temple Israel is currently running a WeFeed drive which will run until April 22nd.  All food collected will go to Jewish Family Services, to help them in their work in our community.

Jewish Family Service of Tidewater (JFS) is a non-profit organization providing a full spectrum of social and health services to meet the needs of Hampton Roads residents. Established in 1946, JFS has had a long-standing tradition of caring and concern for the community it serves. Counseling, adoption, home health care, care navigation, and food and financial assistance are just some of the services provided by highly trained staff and caring volunteers.

Last Tuesday, 28/2/17, the WeFeed Team presented the Food Recovery Initiative to the Virginia Beach Restaurant Association.  The program was well received by members of the board, and an agreement was reached to share the Initiative with all of the members of the Restaurant Association.  We look forward to connecting those members to the food pantries and shelters that serve the hungry in our community.

The Faith Deliverance Christian Center will run a food drive from May 15th to May 22 as part of the Church Rotation Program.  They are the first of the faith-based organizations who signed up at the orientation held in April at the FoodBank of SEVA to run a food drive as part of this program.

The Church Rotation Program is a citywide initiative to combat food insecurity. By mobilizing our faith-based communities in this effort, we have an opportunity to make a true difference in the fight to feed the hungry.

The program is simple and effective: On one Sunday, the pastor will distribute We Feed bags to the congregation and instruct them to return next Sunday with the bags full of food.  The next Sunday the congregation returns with full We Feed bags and sorts the food for delivery to the Foodbank.  If you already operate a food pantry, then the food will first go to stocking your pantry and whatever is leftover will be donated.  We Feed will provide the bags to run the program, and recirculate them to the next church after each event.  We have also developed a mobile app that helps facilitate the food drive and tracks participation.
