Today, the Foodbank of SEVA sent trucks to Sentara Leigh and Sentara Norfolk General to pick up pallets of food for the hungry.  These two hospitals have been running a food drive over the past two weeks in hopes winning the Norfolk Healthcare Collaborative Food Drive Competition and feeding those in need!  When members of our community mobilize on important issues like food insecurity as Sentara has, we have a chance of making a difference. Thanks Sentara!!

Recently, the Spring Branch Community Church participated in the Church Rotation Program.  They raised 2002 lbs of food for the Foodbank, which equates to 1668 meals provided to those in need.

Ms. Gillies of SBCC reflected on the event, "I'm trying to figure out how to get a little scar off of my face while there are families fighting for their next meal. Perspective is everything. I feel so blessed to be part of a community that cares for others. I can't wait until our next event!"

The Faith Deliverance Christian Center will run a food drive from May 15th to May 22 as part of the Church Rotation Program.  They are the first of the faith-based organizations who signed up at the orientation held in April at the FoodBank of SEVA to run a food drive as part of this program.

The Church Rotation Program is a citywide initiative to combat food insecurity. By mobilizing our faith-based communities in this effort, we have an opportunity to make a true difference in the fight to feed the hungry.

The program is simple and effective: On one Sunday, the pastor will distribute We Feed bags to the congregation and instruct them to return next Sunday with the bags full of food.  The next Sunday the congregation returns with full We Feed bags and sorts the food for delivery to the Foodbank.  If you already operate a food pantry, then the food will first go to stocking your pantry and whatever is leftover will be donated.  We Feed will provide the bags to run the program, and recirculate them to the next church after each event.  We have also developed a mobile app that helps facilitate the food drive and tracks participation.
